Startups in today’s era are not just about technology, the internet and machinery. There is one more sector that is being revolutionized and modified to a huge extent. That sector is education. At least in India, there are more than 50 startups that are successfully operational in changing the way education has been provided until now. The growth of Educational Startups In Indian sector has changed the way students used to receive an education. The use of digital platforms mixed with the pedagogy of experts and teachers has truly modified the learning experience.

Students from all sections and classes have not started taking benefits from apps and websites in search for tutors to assist them in their studies. The use of digital media along with advanced learning management systems allows students to gain knowledge in a better and efficient way than traditional and conventional methods.

Education startups have also ensured that quality coaching can be provided to everyone irrespective of their location, age, gender and economic status. Moreover, with the integration of digital media, it has become unbelievably easier to learn something at one’s own convenience.

Eupheus Learning: Eupheus is a startup in Delhi that creates digital material of textbooks and other study material. They offer services on a subscription basis, and their solutions can also be bought as a bundle or as a standalone service. Eupheus seamlessly integrates in-class and at-home learning which makes it much easier for a student to understand a given concept. Euphues Learning was launched in Delhi-NCR in June 2017 by ex-colleagues Sarvesh Shrivastava, Rohit Dhar, Ved Prakash Khatri, and Amit Kapoor.

Byju’s Learning App: This startup was founded in 2015 by Byju Raveendran. Byju’s Learning App is one of the most successful startups in Bengaluru. It is run by Think and Pvt Ltd and is rapidly changing the game in the edtech learning space. As of today, it has registered over 16 million downloads just on the Android platform. Raveendran quit is IT job in the UK to launch this startup. As a matter of fact, in 2017, his efforts were noticed by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which ultimately invested about $50 million in this startup. This great business development was the first funding as Zuckerberg’s first major investment in an Asian and Indian startup. It was like a huge milestone in Byju’s journey of operating the most-funded startup in the education sector in India to date. With a $140 million investment in its portfolio, Byju’s Think & Learn app is now the biggest funded edtech startup in India contributing extensively in making education better and easier for students in India.

LogicRoots: LogicRoots is a Jaipur based startup in India which develops educational and learning material in the form of interactive games and media. The games are both physical as well as digital. The platform has become extremely popular. It was founded in 2011 by Gunjan Agrawal and Kunal Gandhi, both IIT Bombay Alumni. LogicRoots has been credited with developing games to improve the mathematical skills of children and students.

Vedantu: Vedantu is a digital platform that provided online tutoring for students from classes 6 to 12. Students can prepare of highly competitive exams like NTSE, PSA, KVPY, IMO and JEE Mains on Vedantu’s digital platform. Teachers and students come together live using this online portal. Students can opt for a tutor of their choice and can also select time slot according to their own convenience. The technology contains a custom-built whiteboard, audio and video technology. Their primary objective is one-on-one interaction and classes between a teacher and the student. The startup has made offline coaching and tutoring become a more personalized experience through the means of the internet and digital media. Vedantu was launched by IITians Vamsi Krishna, Pulkit Jain, Saurabh Saxena and Anand Prakash. Vedantu is their second educational venture. Their first startup was Lakshaya which was an online training and exam preparation platform.

Unacademy: Unacademy began as a YouTube channel by Gaurav Munjal in 2010. Later Roman Saini and Hemesh Singh joined Gaurav Munjal to form the company which raised about $38 million in funding. Unacademy has done so much in the education sector that it received the digital startup of the year award. Unacademy comprises of teachers and tutors who have either cleared highly competitive and prestigious exams or have a reputation and teaching experience in their respective educational fields. They provide online coaching for various exams like IIT, UPSC, NEET etc. They have over 50,000 lessons online and a registered user base of more than a million users who are using their platform for learning and coaching.

Superprofs: Superprofs is an online platform that is started up in Bangalore, by Sujeet Kumar And Piyush Agarwal in 2010. The institute helps students to learn and prepare for the various competitive exams like UPSC, CA, CS, GATE, civil services and more. The platform enables students from all over the country to get access to the lecture, notes and classes in order to prepare for the exams. The institute has a record of having 386000 + students and more than 200 teachers that are professional and well-trained. It provides a large number of a practice test that enables students to prepare for difficult topics easily. By providing students with the opportunities to learn online from remote locations, it also helps them access the recorded videos of the lectures so that students can watch them and learn as per their availability.

Upgrad: Upgrad is a platform that gives the opportunity to upgrade your skills and go for higher in different fields such as digital marketing, data analytics, product management, digital technology management, data-driven management and many more. The start-up was co-founded by Phalgun Kompalli, Ronnie Screwvala, Ravijot Chugh and Mayank Kumar in 2015. It was started up by Ronnie Screwvala. The aim of the company is to get professionals to upgrade their existing and new skills in different fields. It has an experienced faculty that specializes in providing excellent learning via various technologies and methods.

CueMath: CueMath is a professional platform that allows students to learn maths through different programs irrespective of their potential and capabilities. The founder Manan Khurma has established the start-up with an idea to build a strong foundation of maths right from the beginning in students. The start-up has a potential faculty that contains certified teachers who use different methodologies to make learning easy and quick. The programs are available for the students to learn mathematics online with a wide range of tools that make learning effective.

Careerguide: Careerguide is India’s most popular career counselling platform that has been established in 2009. The start-up is helping build the career of students across the country by making them choose the right career path. The educational firm has a capacity of 1100 career counsellors that identify their interests and choose the right career basis on that. Their experts answer all of the career-related queries of the students with professional advice and help them explore multiple career opportunities to choose their career path.

iProfIndia: iProfIndia is India’s largest platform that enables students to learn the different concepts of class 1X and X curriculum through its application-based learning app. It delivers educational content in the form of videos, notes and practice question papers that are delivered by skilled teachers. The start-up was founded by Sanjay Purohit who has come up with the idea of providing valuable content through their application that works on offline mode as well. The educational organization helps students to learn the concepts of the school curriculum as well as many competitive exams like IIT-JEE, CA-CPT and many more.

Usually, students residing in metro cities and towns can have easy access to quality coaching and tutoring due to the availability of such reputed coaching centres and classes. But students from tier 2,3 and 4 cities usually have to migrate to tier 1 cities to prepare for competitive exams. With the rise of digital and online coaching by these startups, students from remote villages and towns are now being able to access quality coaching and learning. Educational Startups In India have successfully reduced the costs involved in migrating to a new city and associated financial burdens.

In total, there are about 3500 educational startups listed as businesses in India. A large percentage of these startups are in Delhi and Bangalore.

Rajan Singh, another innovative entrepreneur started ConceptOwl with the sole purpose of providing online teaching and coaching to students who had to migrate to Kota or New Delhi to get coaching for competitive exams in India.
